Remi Tinubu explains why she shunned Senate President’s handshake during inauguration

Mrs Tinubu was caught on camera snubbing Saraki’s handshake after the latter became Senate President despite being excluded by the All Progressives Congress (APC) which is led by Mrs Tinubu’s husband, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Senator Remi Tinubu has explained why she refused to shake the hand of Senate President, Bukola Saraki during the inauguration of the eighth National Assembly on Wednesday, June 10, 2015.

Mrs Tinubu was caught on camera snubbing Saraki’s handshake after the latter became Senate President despite being excluded by the All Progressives Congress (APC) which is led by Mrs Tinubu’s husband, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
She gave the explanation during a recent interview with The Nation.
“I had a private meeting with him [Saraki] for less than an hour. And I had the opportunity to tell him why I didn’t shake his hand after my inauguration as a senator,” she said.
“I told him the reason. I said you deprived us from having a swearing-in ceremony. I said that was why I was angry. I said I was angry and that was it. And I have talked to him afterwards. That was the first time I would sit with him in a meeting. I have never had the opportunity,” she added.
Mrs Tinubu also spoke on the recent attack on her person by colleague, Senator Dino Melaye.
Melaye had, on July 12, 2016, threatened to beat up and impregnate Mrs Tinubu after a disagreement broke out on the floor of the Senate.


Mrs Tinubu later said she had forgiven Mr Melaye despite the fact that he refused to apologize.
